Something Warm

I rarely make food posts but here is one for a change. It has turned off cold again here and I really enjoy a nice bowl of hot steel-cut oats in the winter. I don't care for the regular rolled oats that most of us are used to in oatmeal but steel-cut oatmeal is a totally different texture and taste. I just put a little honey (bought from local beekeeper), chopped apples (organic if possible) and pecans (a required staple in the South). That is a cup of organic milk and yikes! some bacon in the background. I would like to raise my own hog someday. We raised them when I was growing up (beef too) and the taste cannot even be compared to store bought pork. Plus, you know, there is the thing with no drugs or hormones etc.
Things have not improved with the house as we have gotten even more rain but at least I have this weekend off to be able to work on correcting the problem. Well, one of them anyway. I am very glad for the rain but must find a solution to this water problem. The creek is way up and I can even hear the rush of the water up at the house! That is very nice. Well, got to get to work; I'll try to show some of my work this weekend.

beautiful pottery--i want some.

really, i just need a new coffee cup. the plight of little-uns is you get really attached to a beautiful piece of art. you spend many hours with it. those waking hours where senses are raw. comfort and deep affection are part of your morning ritual.

poof it's all gone. shattered

if yer sellin' i need a new cup to spend my mornings with--i need it to be big over 16 oz. i use an espresso maker to brew my coffee and use lots of cream. normal sized cups cause me too much confusion in those wee hours. ratios get askew, taste buds get offended and i'm not even awake yet.

if you are not selling, sorry to carry on about my morning coffee fetish. i'll be quite now.

I'd be happy to make you a new mug, karl. Does it need to be tall or do you like a wider mouth? What color/s? Glossy or satin glaze? I have relocated my kiln and need to throw some stuff for the heck of it anyway.

Yeah!!! She is back in the mud!

nothing fancy, i prefer asian style. had a set of rice bowls that i drank coffee out of for years before children.
although taller is better because less evaporative cooling from the surface. that milk cup looks great. i like the slight squaring and that dual glazing of the bowl especially that satin green.
obviously i think you have great taste and leave all this completely up to you. i know from experience that sometimes direction helps while others it doesn't. you decide i'll be ecstatic either way.

Well, kind of Woody; not a lot unfortunately. :D

Actually karl, that cup is not my doing! I love it too though. That was made by a wonderful potter from Georgia which I have several of his pieces. I think I can come up with something you will like though. One more question since you said you once used a bowl; do you want a handle on it?

not necessary. i like handles but don't really miss them when they aren't there. maybe i prefer no handle. since i like tons of cream the cup is never too hot to handle.

no handle, really... no handle, i'm pretty sure i don't want a handle...

ok, you decide, i can't...

Okaaay, we'll just see what I come up with that I like and looks good!
