Keeps Gettin' Better

You know how that old saying goes, "when it rains, it pours"? Well, that is what I'm referring to. I was working on siding today, after I took my truck into the shop to have the transmission serviced, and my sister calls me. It's kinda unusual for her to call during the week like that, but anyway she says, "have you talked to Mama today?" I told her no, was something up? She says well, Mama just called her from the emergency room and asked her to come over there. Seems Mama was feeding the horses and one of them bit her finger off! I almost fell off the pick board! I said "what??!" Rosemary said the horse bit the end of Mama's finger off and then she asked Mama if she got the finger and took it to the hospital, thinking maybe it could be put back on. Mama said she tried but the horse wouldn't give it back! He ate it! My family is like some kind of circus! So, Mama bandaged her hand up and drove herself to the hospital. She is 70.
My truck is still in the shop so Rosemary is going to take Mama to a specialist in Birmingham tomorrow. I talked to Mama on the phone after she got home and you know, it's not funny really but she was laughing and then I was laughing. Sometimes it's just all so absurd or surreal. The thing is, this kind of stuff is actually kinda normal for us. It's like the time our cousins collided head-on during a family football game or when Daddy shot Uncle Bill that Thanksgiving. You just never know what's next.

I think FC is missing a piece of his finger too. I've known more than a few people over the years who have a shorter digit here or there. (I'll try to keep mine the way they are though.)

But that siding down and get to the computer to write a novel. You have all the makings of one!

Those are the stories you don't tell someone until AFTER you are already married.

At least you have a little excitement in your life, right?

Sometimes we have to think of family as an entertainment venue!

Enjoyable post, my friend!

Hey Pablo! oh yeah, I've worked with several guys that were missing part of a finger or the whole thing or two! Glad he just bit the end not her whole finger.

Hey IR! lol! oh, I've haven't told even the half of it sometimes!

Hey Ed! ha! you got that right!

Hey Woody! that's basically what I said.

Hey Jim! sometimes I think maybe I have TOO much excitement! lol!

Very good ER. This one got quite a few varied reactions, hmm? I collapsed literally (!) from these words: "Mama said she tried but the horse wouldn't give it back! He ate it!

Then again with these: My family is like some kind of circus!"

But also sorry about your mama's misfortunate.

You are hilarious in this tale - I too think there's a book waiting for you to write it.

You are doing well, Girl. Keep on going along.

I'm not missing it Pablo, they screwed it back on.

I was just cracking up near the end of this tale. I figure if your Mom can laugh about it so can I.

GREAT POST GIRL!

HEy Anon! thanks. Mama says she doesn't hurt though; which is good.

Hey Molly! well, my sister was laughing when she told me and Mama was laughing her head off so you can't help but think it's funny! She says she is not hurting so that helps.

Hey Fc! yeah, we were all laughing, it's so crazy you can't help but snicker some!

Very funny post, your Mama must be a very sweet lady, for the horse to think she'd be a good treat!

Hey Linda! she is!

Ouch! Goodness that's awful, even if oddly funny. Always wondered about those big teeth on horses... this sounds gross, but my cousins growing up had a horse bit a chunk out of a kid's cheek once. Ugh.

Couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry on this one- sorry for your mama's finger but shoot- I "hear" you, your sister and your mama tellin' the story and I almost fall out of the chair laughing! Sorry for your loss as well- thank goodness your family leaves you with a great many fantastic stories!
