The Lucky One

Yes, I do consider myself the 'lucky one' and have reflected on that a bit this Thanksgiving weekend. Most of all I consider myself to be so lucky to be in the position of personal freedom that I have. Free to choose whatever road I might like to travel down and free to use my resources as I choose. I am so grateful to be able to live the natural, self-sufficient life that I am embarking on. And I am grateful to have good friends that share my views, at least to a point, and help me or encourage me when needed.

I hope everyone out there had a great holiday and got to enjoy it with those of your choosing. Of course, I went up to visit family. That went about like normal. Not really much interaction with anybody but Mama. I wonder sometimes why we really get together but I guess everybody feels obligated. I did get to visit with my niece Katie and her boyfriend, who just recently graduated from firefighter school.
Since we were at Mama's house I took a lot of my tools and did some remodeling on her back porch and installed a new screen door. Jack came over and reworked her raised bed that she grows veggies in and installed new edging along the back walkway. He was a great help and we got a lot done. I just find that I have fewer and fewer things in common lately with my family. And they seem to find my lifestyle completely bizarre and unnecessary. Oh well, whatcha going to do? I just go on about my business and have a good time. And it makes me even more grateful I have such a nice place to come home to and to have found someone who sees things the way I do for the most part.

You have the right attitude about the whole thing, I think!

Just keep on keeping on...!

I find that I have a lot more interaction with my (many) nieces and nephews and very little with my (many) brothers and sisters anymore.

Annie, you are not alone in finding nothing in common with family members as it's the same with many of us. Like you, I too am thankful for many friendships, including the many new "friends" in the blog world. Being able to live your life and do what you enjoy doing is indeed wonderful.

Glad you got to visit with yer Momma and helped her with her raised beds. And dont worry, my family and some friends think I am crazy and even weird because I dont want any electricity at my lil place. They also wonder why I want to live so far out in the country(12miles outta town). I've tried to explain but they just dont get it. I find its useless explaining anymore and kinda funny on their part at the same time. I think you have done great fer yerself!!! ~Jen

Hey Jim! thanks; that's the only thing I know how to do really!

Hey Pablo! that's interesting. I wonder sometimes why that is for me too.

Hey Beatrice! yes, it is wonderful. yeah, I know lots of people have the same situation and it's kinda sad. It makes me wonder.

Hey Jen! yeah, oooh, 12 miles, that's a horrible distance! lol!!
thanks; I think I've done pretty good myself and I find it kinda useless to explain much too. I used to try but it just seems to irritate them.

I have to tell you Edifice--I don't get what they think is weird. You sound perfectly "normal" to me--I would love to share a meal and some dinner-time conversation. Maybe-just maybe--your blood family doesn't know how to peek outside the box, much less step out and live outside it. I guess you just have to bless them and love them where they are...and from afar.

Hey gal, you sound perfectly normal (or should one say well adjusted) to me. You canny on with what needs doing with skill and determination. You are obviously skilled in what you do. You have friends! (Just take care of your back). ATB!

Hey Sarah! thanks so much. It's a funny thing; my family and I agree on a few things pertaining to living and health but then at times they just act like I've run off and joined the freak show. lol! I don't get it but I don't really try to explain anymore. I just avoid certain topics I know they are going to get all crazy over.

Hey Rusty! thanks and I'm trying very hard to care for my back, I promise! lol!
You know, I think sometimes the fact that do carry on by myself and just do what needs being done is what gets them. I think sometimes they think I should just stop all progress until I get a permanent man.

I love that you are commited to living well within your means. Somehow you have not given in to the commercial propaganda of living on credit. It is too bad more people do not realize that that is a trap that can destroy you some day.

Love the pecan pie! When I was the minister of a church it was the pecan pie that kept me dropping in on the ladies group meetings. I learned how to handle my coffee, pie and handshaking at those meetings (the things the do not teach you in seminary).
