Those of you who have read my blog for some time might have picked up on the fact that I am a big Lyle Lovett fan, in that you may have recognized his song titles in a good number of my post titles. Funny though that I had never gotten the opportunity to see him in concert. It was a very close call however, as we didn't get tickets until almost the last minute.
As soon as we got home that evening I pulled up the venue website and Heavens to Mercatroid!! there were still a few tickets left! And what a show!! It was a wonderful concert; maybe the best I've ever been to. I must give praise to the Alys Stephens Center though, and it's designer, because that is really a fabulous concert hall. I don't believe there is a bad seat in the house and the acoustics are astounding.
Mr. Lovett and his band must have agreed because they played for about 3 hours, which from what the Stephens Center said, is about an hour over. But boy, was it ever appreciated and to top it all off he closed with my just about favorite song of his, You Can't Resist It. So, thank you Mr. Lovett for making my night; heck, my whole summer!
Ya'll know this has not been the best year so far for me, so that was one reason I think I enjoyed it so.

I am so happy you an extra awesome day. Music is so healing and uplifting for me so I get this totally.
I've never been a fan of going to large arenas for sporting events. I get more enjoyment from home. Same goes for other spectator events. But when it comes to music, there is just something about a good concert that I can't resist though I prefer to go to ones where people for the most part sit down and listen. I just hate shelling out lots of money for a seat to see someone in concert and then have to stand the entire time. I'm guessing a LL concert is a most seating kind of concert.
My favorite concert of all time was a Don McLean concert which just featured him, a chair and an acoustic guitar. Of course it was a small venue. A close second was a John Prine concerted opened by Leo Kottke. That one felt like a two-fer instead of an opener and a headliner.
What a great day that was for you.
Hey Erin! thanks! yeah, it was most definitely awesome.
Hey Ed! Yeah, everybody kept their seats until the end so it was very enjoyable and this particular hall in the ASC is not as large as it appears in photos, so it had a very intimate feel. Due to the great acoustics you could also easily hear when he would talk to the crowd. He is a very gracious and fun entertainer.
Hey Jo! yes it was! we had a blast.
Sweet!
Hey Caroline! Yep!!
I'm glad that you got to really enjoy the concert!
Good memories for a time!
Wow Annie, I could just about feel the happiness in this post about the concert. How wonderful for you and Jack to have seen a performer you enjoy so much. Your enthusiasm definitely came through in this post!
That's some good stuff there!
Glad you got to see Lyle Lovett. We saw him & his band when they were in California. It was a great concert and he put on a very personal show.
Lyle is wonderful. I went to see him with John Hiat a while ago. Two grand gents passing tunes back and forth. Lovely.
I lovett me some Lyle! Seen him a few times at Wolf Trap in Virginny. He'll be here in Denver in a couple weeks at Red Rocks but...it takes more than Mr. Lovett to put me in that arena.
