Rock Bottom

The sign at the beginning of the trail suggested a picnic, fishing or a swim when you get to the bottom and I'll say, had the weather been warm, it would have been a most beautiful place for it. I never saw an area where the water was murky.

If you enlarge this photo and look closely smack in the middle of that rock bluff, amongst the pine trees, you will see a large house. The park itself is apparently not very wide because you will see private residences every so often along the rim. Thankfully, there are not a lot. I guess there ain't a lot of people that can afford such construction. But what a damn view from your deck.

This was one one of the steeper parts of the trail on the way back up. It was a good workout!
Sorry the photo is a little washed out.

This was a little side trail on the way back up also. A good excuse to go out and sit on this rock and rest for a minute! The pictures just don't give the feel of the immensity of the canyon unfortunately.
So, if you are ever passing through Alabama, or live here, or have ever thought about coming here, I would definitely recommend that you visit Little River Canyon, if you enjoy hiking or camping and nature. Oh, there was also an official bird-watching trail on this end, near the trail I hiked to the bottom. It didn't cost us anything to get in but if you go to the south end of the canyon, to the 'beach', there is a $3 use fee. Sounds extremely reasonable to me.

Man, that water makes me want to go swimming!

I can just imagine camping within a few feet of that creek, and fishing for breakfast!

I need to get out more!

Gorgeous! Lliterally, LOL). Thanks for the hike report - those river shots make me want to jump in or grab a kayak or something! I had no idea there was anything like that in Alabama - 'course then I really have no mental picture of Alabama's topography at all. It's great to learn more about it.

I nominate one of the photos from your two posts on this trip for your new top banner :D

(Yeah, I'm ready for winter to be over!)

Alabama tourism folks should give you an award for these posts. As a result of your photos, husband and I are looking at renting a cabin near the canyon in June. If we do, I will get with you about meeting at Barber Motorsports on our way home!

Hey IR! Wonderful!! I think ya'll will really enjoy it. As a matter of fact, we saw quite a few people on motorcycles enjoying the drive around the canyon.
That would be great to meet at Barber's! Jack has never seen it and I think he would like it too.

Hey Ezra! thanks!!

Hey Anon-R! I'm not sure why your comment didn't show up here but I did get it in my email. Great idea about changing my header photo to one of these!! I'm very ready for winter to be over also.

Looks like a wonderful way to spend a day, Annie. Jack is right in being prepared and we also have those small 2-way radios, but then forget to bring them along when we'e out someplace. I like the new look for the blog!

Great pictures, beautiful place too. Your new header picture is great. I can't wait to be able to go hiking again. I don't know how much I will be able to do this summer but watch out next year. LOL

Weird about my comment, but glad you were able to see it. I sure enjoy your blog. The new header is glorious! Very hopeful and spring-like.

Thanks again for the report and showing something I never imagined in Alabama.

I didn't know about Little River Canyone, till I saw Dr.Doug Phillips on Discovering Al. about 10 yrs. ago. I haven't made it, but I sure want too. You visit sure makes me want to head that way. The weather is getting about right for it. Surely a magnificient de-stressing tool.

Hey Jojo! thanks! Well, I hope you heal up quick!

Hey Tammy! yeah, I like to watch Dr. Doug; he goes to some neat places. You should certainly head up there soon!

Hey Anon-R! Well, it's still not showing up but I'm getting them through my email! I have no idea what is going on but thanks for commenting.
Yes, Alabama has some really gorgeous places and I am really happy to show them to everyone! We are much more than a state full of rednecks knuckle-draggers. lol!!

Well weird! Especially since my comments did show up before (and I haven't changed anything that I know of). Thanks for answering me anyway, so I don't feel as though I dropped into a black hole :D
