Several of ya'll are always fussing about wanting to see more pottery so here is some of my recent stuff! Meg, Tricia and Page, your stuff is on it's way! Hopefully, nothing will blow up when I fire it. I was fairly pleased with the way this batch came out. I've been trying hard to experiment with new textures and designs. I feel that I'm a real tight-ass when it comes to throwing. Meaning that my work is technically pretty good but it lacks soul. I need to loosen up, get kinda jiggy wit' it, ya know.
I don't know that you can see the impressions and such on the pieces but I use a lot of found objects (shells and such) for designs and am trying to let the marks of my hands show more. I was especially pleased with the little square bowls but I will have to give them up I imagine.
Now, these pieces are still drying and with this rain lately, it's going slow. I am going to try to show the whole process of glazing and firing this time. I know I said that before and then got sidetracked and didn't show crap but I'll try harder this time. I think it's interesting to see how different a piece looks just glazed and then after it's fired, because the unfired glazes are often completely different colors than the finished product.
Ya'll feel free to continue to add your 2 cents worth to the last post! I enjoy reading about you too!

As my blog title suggests, I live near a river and it happens to be a historical/older part of Iowa. Perhaps twenty five years ago, a lady moved into one of the more historical touristy towns along the river and opened up a pottery shop called Iron and Lace. As far as I know, she does a pretty good seasonal business and doesn't have any other source of income. Just saying....
Here is a link to their website. I forgot to mention they also do blacksmithing too. Probably also right up your alley.
Whoa! And here you go. I have been happily awaiting this since you said you'd do it.
Only having one semester I did slab method and got to "try" the wheel for a few moments. For me,a box doesn't compare with a bowl - guess this is because I never got to make one.
I am just so impressed with you - a "so very" talented young woman.
If only I hadn't wasted so much of my time (sigh)
Hey Ed! thanks for sharing that and yes, I like blacksmithing too!
I believe I could make a living on my pottery, even now because we have the internet but I can make so much money in construction and that helps to buy large quantities of material for the house. Maybe soon I can retire from construction.
Hey Sis! Sorry it has taken me so long to get to this. thanks so much tho!
Even I feel like I'm wasting my time sometimes, about different things. I should be much further along in my art career but,,that's the way it goes sometimes.
Hurray...She's playing with mud again!
Yippeee!
Everything looks great as usual especially the square bowl.
I just spent the last week dogsitting for friends and they have some pretty cool pottery kitchen wares. One was a ceramic colander that made me think of you.
It was neat but the glaze was awfully boring (to me anyway).
I'll be sharing a mug or two with them so they can see fine work that works (sez she cuddling her favorite ER mug in one hand and reading the blog).
Hey Woody! Yea!!!!
Hey Mya! thanks! i hope they enjoy the mugs.
Very cool!
Jiggy is good.
Love seeing your work, whether it is carpentry in the house or your art projects.
I didn't add to the last post because you know my story from reading PF.
Hey Melody! thanks!
Hey FC! thanks man!
Oh, yeah that's ok, I know you're reading anyway.
I like the looks of the pottery very much. Always wanted to get into pottery...guess cause I just wanted to be able to play in the mud!
Hey Jim! thanks! well, you should give it a try! most colleges offer a course and retired people can usually audit the class at very little cost.
This is my first time reading your blog and when the photo collage at the top of the page came up my heart skipped a beat at the sight of those bowls you've made! They are gorgeous! I absolutely LOVE those deep bowls, both the square and round. Forgive the newbie question, but do you sell/ship your work? I have no idea when I'll be down South again.
Hey Kimberlee! glad to have ya and thank you very much for your kind words. Yes, I do sell and ship my work wherever people are willing to pay for it to go! Just tell me what pieces you would like or I can give you a price list of what's available.
Hey Kimberlee! i forgot to add, just email me at the address listed in my profile if you want more info on the pottery.
