Tell Me 'Bout It

OK, so I have a question for you all, or at least the men. I put the video up of the panel being set because I thought that would be something kinda neat and interesting and got several responses to that effect from the women....but not a peep from you guys until Jim finally said something. I'm just curious, why? I thought that would be something you guys would think was really cool. No? Head has been reading the blog a little lately and he even commented to me the next day that he thought it was funny only the women responded.
Of course, given my current state and history, it's obvious I have no idea what men find interesting or compelling! So I guess maybe that answers that!

The video is good but it's still not quite like being there. Trust me, when those things start moving, it gets everybody's attention; regardless of how long you've seen it done. In fact, a couple of the guys fussed about me posting this pic on Facebook because I caught them all standing there propped up, watching. (Generally speaking we not not supposed to stand around or ever sit down on the job.) In this instance it was kinda hard not to watch though. The reason the crane is extended out so far is because he had to pick that one panel up and over the others you see to the right; it was something to see.
We are very cautious though and respect the materials we are working with. In fact, we don't really set them. They have a specialized crew that comes in (a subcontractor) that actually sets them, although we do assist. They get paid much more to risk their lives. I have participated in the past but now that is something for the young boys to learn. I've done my share. It was kinda interesting that me and Hippie have been on the most tilt-up jobs but our foremen, who are all young men, had never been on one before. They needed the experience. We were just very happy that all the panels came out real pretty and none of them stuck or broke.

So, was it boring to you guys or what?

i personally thought that any wall that size is hypnotizing to watch being moved! I've seen some big ones going up, but nothing this big...!

Anyone that works around these monsters has my respect, that's for sure!

It was EXTREMELY cool, I missed you yesterday and had to go back to watch it, so I'm commenting here.
Wow!

It was a great video but for me having worked in construction, nothing that I hadn't seen many times before. I was still fun to watch. Brought back many memories.

What part of your construction experience makes you think that men know how to type?

Seriously, my reaction was the same as Richard's (although I doubt I have the depth of experience that he does. I am too young.)

For myself, I actually found the posts where you describe how you build those panels more interesting than the video of the crane lifting them into place.
The panels are cool new concept (at least to me). But once they are built, it is just another heavy object that needs to be lifted into place.

Granted, it would very interesting to be one of the guys moving them into place. The prospect of death always concentrate the mind. But without that special thrill, it does not look much different than lifting a huge in ground fuel tank out of the ground and over obstacles(to name one thing I have seen a crane do from up close).

I mostly comment when I have something to add to the conversation. Picking up huge concrete panels is something I know nothing about and thus kept mum. It was cool though.

A little décolletage (is this a working class word in Alabama. I learned it reading Victoria Secrets' Catalogues) or butt crack will get the guy's attention!

Hey Guys! thanks for answering my question. that's kinda what I thought.
Chieftain, you make a good point; Mouse told me also that HOW the panels are made would actually be more interesting too.
thanks again everybody for commenting and yeah, Philip, cleavage is one thing I figured out a long time ago to get a guy's attention! lol!

Annie, I wanted to see the video and I started it, and I waited, and I waited some more. My internet connection dos'nt do videos very well. And when it does it uses up all my airtime quite rapidly. I did'nt see the video. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

But looking at the picture there, I wonder how much it would cost me to get that crane to come over here when I go to put up my trusses and gable ends. lol.

Hey Mark! yeah, sometimes I have trouble watching vidoes too and my connection is pretty fast; sometimes they just don't want to load.
I don't know how much that crane goes for! lol! I bet it's a pretty penny tho! that's a big boy crane for sure.
